Even with internet sites selling PCs, it is many times cheaper to go to the store. I've looked at PCs on at cost sites and am not impressed. By the way, at cost means at their per unit cost if they bought one. They are buying thousands and that is how they make their money. Some also charge a transaction fee.

At one time I bought all my PCs through mail order. There was no tax. Now it seems most sites charge tax. I just looked at one site and the tax was around $90 and the shipping was $90. Even though retailer may have more overhead, that $90 shipping is a killer as far as I'm concerned. I can go buy a comparable system at CPU for the same price after shipping. Also, first time buyers (this is what is driving sales) are reluctant to buy online (they don't even have a computer yet!)
