Don't know, but I can tell you this... I'm about five months behind in my reading too. Perhaps Jeff just came upon it. He is more known for his strengths in analyzing voice carrier affairs. I found it strange that he would be getting into this. Then again, everyone is hopping onto the band{width)wagon these days.

I've had an opportunity to fiddle with a regional design for one of my clients and I inserted the SR model into the black box areas where DWDMs with traditional cross connects and muxes were used. It made for an interesting tradeoff on the high bandwidth flows, although it didn't offer any relief (actually introduced some problems) in dealing with the intermediate and lower order distribution needs to user areas. I had to revert back to positioning traditional elements in those instances due to this, which brings out the fact that this is primarily a high density route solution, and not for smaller streams. This takes into account the possibilities that would manifest in the nearest term practical applications of the technology, in any event.
