In the past everything was highly customized, but you need standardization to achieve business economies and to leverage the internet and e-commerce. If you ask 90% of the users of any software implementation they will always say "it sucks". You have to get to upper management for the understanding of the business advantanges. Even at Dell where it was obvious that software entirely made that business, the users were complainers.
