As you might imagine -- Fenway is close to the hearts of many New Englanders and the idea of tearing down Fenway for a shinny, new, modern structure is not particularly appealing to most around here. The current plan is to rebuild the current park, although the ownership would prefer a whole new ballpark with 50k+ seats and all the typical LUX boxes etc... Fenway can only hold 36k at present -- not enough to compete in the bigs anymore. I'm personally in favor of working with the existing structure which would mean extended the Green Monster further out in left and possibly lowering its height. They would add seats along the left field line and add a deck that starts over towards and slightly over the new wall. They would move the bullpens out of right field and add seats there as well by adjusted the elevation and grade back over the bleachers. The problem with these plans are that they will only add 5,000 seats. Fenway's charm is the closeness to the field from every seat. This would begin to get compromised by these plans. There is no easy answer. The current mayor wants to keep the old Fenway. -JH
