HWP Hermeneutics...

I've been poring over these giant HWP ads since they first started appearing over a couple of weeks ago... looking for signs. I agree with certain RB and SI posters that there are, embedded in them and in certain parts of HWP's site, very intriguing indications of the coming Wave.

By way of an analogy, the world, by now, has seen the IBM "socks, stocks, Scots" supply chain commercial. It's hilarious. What most folks don't know is that right beneath the surface of these ads is a relationship with i2 Technologies. In essence, IBM is popularizing... and making digestible... difficult concepts... like demand planning, forecasting, etc. ITWO is and will be the ultimate beneficiary of these ads. IBM gets the service consulting bucks which are not negligible. But, ITWO licenses the enabling software.

Similarly, I think, HWP, with its e-services campaign is, at least in some of the material, popularizing notions of pay-per-use content distribution, subscription services, and metering. And it is the Wave that will ultimately benefit.

I do think, though, we need to watch the expectations just a little bit. I have great hopes for this company and this investment. (And that's saying a lot, because the investment has performed like a trooper thus far.) But, periodically, I have to remind myself, that for all Peter Sprague's remarkable connections--both cerebral and business--WAVX is still a small company. And ubiquity can't and won't happen overnight. And that, as with all technology launches, there will be delays and missteps. And that I can, oh-so-blithely, connect this and that dot with this and that .com and get even irate if WAVX hasn't embedded my facile musings into their business model by night's end. But, real-world alliances take time... and energy... and massive amounts of senior management bandwidth.

No illusions, though. This post won't cool any of the overheated engines that are revving in anticipation of this or that event.

Best Regards,

c m

The Intellectual Underpinnings For HWP's e-Services Campaign...

Been rooting around on various HWP sites, including their HP Laboratories site. I think every WAVX investor will be very interested to read these two bits, especially the second one.
Sometimes, the dots get connected for you.
