Ten,

I'll remember that the next time you make negative speculation about Merced.

Sounds fair to me. We should all be held accountable for our predictions. I wish that SI had better search engines so that we could trace them better.

Tench,

Re: Merced

Tench seems to me that Merced may make it by mid next year but it will be close seeing as they haven't taped out yet.

As you know the K8 is already well down the design path.

It may well come out by end of 2000.

And if it comes out with an 64 bit Alpha / K7 x 86 hybrid as I suspect then you have a true merced killer due to the lead that ALpha will have in running things like Linux, NT, Windows 2000 etc.

And of course Dresden should be running 0.13 /Cu by then wouldn't you think.

Quite a rosy scenario for AMD methinks (until they shoot themselves in the head).

Regards,

Kash

Re: "I'll remember that the next time you make negative speculation about Merced."

Ten, there's a difference between our speculation about Merced and your on K7:

In the popular press, the K7 has gotten great reviews and everyone's looking forward to it with high hopes and great anticipation.

In the popular press, the attitude towards Merced seems to be: "We'll have to wait for McKinley to get anything useful out of IA64."

Kevin

PS BTW, where is Paul to tell us over and over again how much money AMD lost last quarter?
