Well, I'm one of those who is piling on and contributing to the overcrowding since I just signed up last week. I'm aware of problems with Datek only because of the people on this thread who are willing to share their experiences. Gomez Advisors consists simply of rageful, incomplete opinions. So I value this forum since I know many here from other threads, and can therefore give more credence to those I have come to respect.

I'm sure there is a better browser based broker out there, but I've yet to see opinions from people I trust. Every broker has people spouting off about bad experiences and defenders who seem to think it can do no wrong. This isn't helpful. So, having read many of the posts in this thread, I'm expecting Datek to provide only a certain level of service and no more. Since I'm position trading, I'm hoping they will suffice. When I called them today about funding the account, I waited on hold for more than 15 minutes. That, frankly, is no different than some other brokers I've had, and I wasn't particularly surprised. What did surprise me was how friendly and helpful the customer service rep. was. So, even though this isn't going to help if I'm not getting timely confirmations, this is one thing over some other brokers (who also fail to provide timely confirmations, but are often surly when asked to do something about it). Of course, there was the usual B.S. about "this is the hottest industry so we're having trouble keeping up with demand." I agree, they shouldn't be signing up new customers if they can't service the current ones. In light of all this, I still went with Datek because, truly, the other brokers looked worse (for one reason or another).

BTW, if you really want to daytrade, I have had very good experiences with JPR. Since I don't intend on needing direct order routing and so forth, I can't justify the monthly data feed. But, if they offered a scaled down, lower cost service, I'd have absolutely no hesitation about staying with them.

Regards,

Paul Kaz

For fear of jinxing myself I made 11 round trips today from open to close and had the best fills since I have been with Datek. If today was the norm they would be the best bar none.

Bill, with Datek's inconsistency before 10am, do you simply cross your fingers at this time? I can't imagine putting so much money on the line each day, without having 99% confidence in your trading platform. What makes you stay with Datek?
