Agreement With U.S. RealTel Helps Intermedia Bring Unique Telco Services to New Customers Across the Country
Intermedia to have instant access to almost 600 office properties in U.S. RealTel portfolio
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999-- U.S. RealTel, Inc. (NASDAQ: USRT - news), the nation's largest landlord of pre-leased telecommunications access sites, and Intermedia Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: ICIX - news), the nation's largest provider of shared tenant services, announced today a national agreement giving Intermedia the opportunity to reach new customers in more than 80 million square feet of multi-tenant office buildings and provide them with advanced telecommunications services.

U.S. RealTel (USRT) has leased the rights to telecommunications space from major property owners. Of its more than 6,500 properties in the United States portion of the USRT Telecom Grid(TM), 578 are multi-tenant office buildings, the primary focus of Intermedia's Comactiv business. Intermedia Comactiv is an integrated family of telecommunications products and services designed for office buildings. Based on USRT's Master Sublease, the agreement gives Intermedia access to these office properties, as well as those in other segments of the Grid, such as shopping malls and commercial strip center space.

''This agreement gives Intermedia the benefit of signing only one Master Sublease to provide thousands of office building tenants with a suite of sophisticated telecommunications solutions,'' said Charlie McNamee, president of U.S. RealTel's Occupant Services Division.

''Intermedia will be able to reach its target market in a more cost effective and efficient way as well as maximize customer value by delivering more complete communications services across a wider geographic area,'' McNamee added.

''In keeping with our core strategy to bring leading-edge communications technology to the marketplace at a rapid pace, our agreement with U.S. RealTel will allow Intermedia to expand its current reach and speed the deployment process of Comactiv(SM) services,'' said Mark Masi, vice president and general manager of Intermedia Comactiv.

''Comactiv will provide these customers with integrated local and long distance voice, data, Internet and Web service, as well as on-site technical support. All of these needs and requirements can be met with a single call to Intermedia,'' Masi said.

Intermedia provides all the necessary facilities so that customers can benefit from the money-saving synergy of T1 lines, dedicated switches and volume discounts. A service team assigned to each site offering Comactiv services provides immediate, personalized response to any business tenant system problem. This advanced approach to telecom servicing enables businesses to harness the power of today's communications technology in a way that allows them to focus on their core business.

Intermedia will expand its customer base by focusing on U.S. RealTel buildings in major metropolitan markets, including New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta; Miami; and Dallas.

I agree an this doesn't only apply to buildings, but also Cellphone companies or any type of wireless communication company looking to expand their areas. With USRT antenna grids it makes it that much easier for them. Another positive is there is no equipment or maintainence cost involed for USRT. Their only cost I think is legal fees for securing leases and properties. The other positive thing is that they are suppose to start USRT Finance which will add to the bottom line. Anyway welcome aboard, I was getting lonely.
