Alcatel looking for U.S. partners for screen phone

ReutersPlus, Friday, April 16, 1999 at 04:40

PARIS, April 16 (Reuters) - French telecoms equipment maker
Alcatel (SBF:CGEP) said on Friday it was talking to several
potential U.S. partners, including AOL (NYSE:AOL), to develop its
"screen phone" in the United States.
A company spokesman was commenting on a report in the Wall
Street Journal about America Online Inc.'s plans to introduce
gadgets allowing Internet access without a personal computer.
Alcatel SA (SBF:CGEP) was seen as a likely partner in the
venture, the newspaper said. The Alcatel spokesman said he had
no further comment to add.
