Most of the big investment houses have research departments that are, at best, reactive. They find a stock that has gone down and they downgrade it. They see one go up and they upgrade it. I have a feeling that these people spend very little time out there in the real world actually doing any kind of real research. If you consider that retail sales for computer gear has been a terrible business to be in in the last six months (shrinking to non-existant margins, inventory that becomes worthless over night, etc) I think that ONSL has done a wonderful job of hanging in there.
So much of what decides who is going to make it has to do with just out-lasting every one else and remaining extremely flexible in your business plan. As good a job as I think they have done handling their business, I think that they have done an equally terrible job handling the press and Wall Street. I don't think that there is a conspiracy against them as much as there is no conspiracy for them. Except, perhaps, a few battered longs like us!
