I'm hardly the person to ask, PW, and I don't know if I agree with the premise that the USA is the dominant country in the world today, as there are a lot of different ways of measuring dominance and the time interval of our recovery has been very short. I'll take a stab at offering a few reasons why things are good, though: * The USA is blessed with an abundance of space and natural resources. * We have great trading partners to the north and south <g>. * The current (temporary) economic weakness of the other super powers makes us look better than perhaps we are. * Our weaponry is second to none. * Clinton didn't get booted out of office; ie, our political system is pretty stable. Don't look to me for insights in the political arena; all of the above are pretty obvious. Maybe someone else should respond. Frank

OT--OT--OT-- What, in your opinion, was responsible for the emergence of the United States of America as the dominant country in the world today? Can't resist, Witch. The answer is FREEDOM! We have more of it in this country than any other in the world. Others have more people, more resources, more everything but that. You know, I could move to Canada, but I could never become a Canadian while you could move to America, and become an American. It is a state of mind.

PMS...W....."What, in your opinion, was responsible for the emergence of the United States of America as the dominant country in the world today?".....The US emerged during WWI.........Europe had been devastated by 4+ years of war...Wilson delayed entry into the war until it was certain that England was about to loose the war.....WWII was similar...the manufacturing capabilities of Asia..and Europe were wiped out....not to mention the flight to America of the best and brightest of those warring countries....The US military industrial establishment became the largest biz in the world due to these conflicts...ON BORROWED $......I have omitted a lot of details.....Tim
