Dave, Spots, Sean:

Thanks much you guys. You are very kind to answer in such detail.

I understand some of what you speak, but the switching/bridge/hub/marketing discussion lost me.

I just don't understand the basic principles of networking. It's like working on your home wiring without understanding electricity - I do it, but I always feel a bit insecure. And I've started working with 220A recently!

Any suggestions for the Dummy's Guide to Networking?

And why isn't the idea of a pay per question website a good one. You guys add a lot of value, but there are so many questions that the existing websites only occassionally have the exact answer for you - plus you have to search a lot.

Thanks again, Peter

>>Contra Spots, DSL is fast e-net (not slow e-net) through US West

Dave, if that's true you're not welcome in my house and if that's
false, well, of course, then you're a liar.

Ok, ok, I assume it's true since you said it. DAMN! DSL is
immoral and should be banned. Until I can get it.

No, I didn't know it would run 100 mbit. ?? You SURE.
DAMN! again.

I am, of course, kidding about not welcome in my house. Drop
by anytime you're on the east coast, and bring a DSL feed
with you ...
