Patrick,
Most people do not understand that most modern holidays that Christians are celebrating are based on ancient pagan holidays. Nor do they know the history of how the pagan religions were vilified and the pagan deities were translated into the the evil representatives of Christianity.

Most people think that witches have magical powers and that they worship the Christian devil rather than a polytheistic religion that held mother earth in reverence and understood the cycles of life. An effective campaign really.

I do not follow any particular religous belief, but I do find the history interesting and I try not to disrespect anyone's beliefs.

In other words, you are right.
JXM

Hi, Pat, you know Beltane is celebrated with gusto in Edinburgh!

Frankly, I think that people, at least the people on this thread, adore an excuse to take a break and play now and then. Seasonal themes such as Mistletoe and Valentine's give them a clustering point for the imagination and a point of departure. It is fun.

I honestly do not to poke fun at the Celtic ritual. My own Celtic background is what led me to use it a theme and to provide the opening explanation. I hoped that this was clear.
