E, I would like to answer your question, but I must admit total ignorance about the issue. Given that fact, it seems to me that much of the discussion has centered around the motivation of psychopaths. It seems to me that since the genitalia are the primary weapons and/or targets for the attack it has everything to do with sex. And frankly, I care not one wit about motivation.

If we were talking about a mugging, and someone suggested that it had nothing to do with money -- that it was all about power and humiliation -- that person would be laughed at.

Sorry, but I have a very simple-minded approach when it comes to these things. I don't know what motivations float around in the minds of these psychopaths, nor do I particularly care. It is the action that counts. The action is an unprovoked physical attack on another human being. These attackers are defective human beings, devoid of a sense of humanity and respect for others and they need to be permanently separated from the rest of society.

Please note, I am not talking about some of the date-rape cases, nor am I talking about the morning after remorse type cases. I am talking about unprovoked physical assaults on another human being.

I hope I have answered your question.

Yes- I would think that had to do with sexual impulses. Like a child abuser who could only be aroused by children- same sort of deviant source for arousal- my only concern was that you were overlooking a huge crop of rapists who rape with foreign objects (and who donot get erections) AND THAT IS RAPE- it is not technical at all. Whether you have a broomstick or a penis shoved inside one of your orifices it is still rape. (I would never argue there is no sexual component- I mean it could be sexually arousing to beat someone, or shoot someone- only that it isn't sex per se)

<<... and focus here on whether the rapist who spots a victim, stalks
her with an erection, becomes increasingly aroused as he closes in
on her, traps her, terrorizes her (increasing his sexual excitation,
because these guys are excited by the fear of their victim,) reaches
his point of maximum erection, produces precoital fluid, tears her
clothes off or makes her undress, touches her breasts, penetrates
her, and comes, sweating and moaning, is having a sexual
experience.>>

If the author of this were a man, I would feel it necessary to to turn him in for compulsory psychiatric evaluation. Of course he is having a sexual experience (by definition). I am far from totally innocent in these matters, but I have never even fantasized anything so vile, and I've a rich full catalog of sexual fantasies. I think except for the "terrorizes her" you're talking about date rape at a frat party. She's drunk, she doesn't consent or call out for help, he leads and coerces her, is assertive and not gentle, but uses at least minimal force to get her into a bedroom upstairs, the resists futilely, passes out (or gives up) and he has his way with her. Later, if passed out (and if she is not his best girl) the brothers may visit as they will. She awakes at dawn, feeling filthy and abused with a nasty taste in her mouth, with memories of horror that she will try to repress, believes that complaining will only disgrace her further, and cannot be sure she didn't egg the first man on. Everyone's afraid to take her home.
Another weekend at the campus.
