Wow! That's huge news, IMHO.

OT, CPQ continued...
Sound like I'm gloating? Nah. Not till the same thing happens
to Dell.

Not a time to gloat. CPQ has good assets probably poorly deployed
or digested currently. Some new (more competent) guy/gal might execute
better. CPQ was the only one trying a "Don't only be Microsoft
OEM" strategy. Weird to see them undergo a soap-opera like
transition. Hope they don't sell pieces of their good technology
to Microsoft etc in this turmoil and MSFT already has got other
companies funding their R&D for free while they walk away with
the cream.

If they really tank tomorrow or later, (When is their real
earnings date ?), I might consider a contrarian buy.

It's all quite a ways over my head; I'm not a programmer. But what you say sounds good to me as the over-all view.CPQ/DEC was and still is threatening rival to SUN.I bet MS is busy hiring away informants.
To me it still comes down to the capability of the basic operating system, UNIX vs. NT, and from everything I've read so far, NT doesn't come close. As long as that doesn't change, yeah, who cares about the stock price this week.Microsoft marketing will eventually be exposed by their chaotic actual execution of all those promises. Like, Wizard this. And SUN will be one of the beacons of light in all this packet confusion.
One aside, what happened to BYTE magazine that it's now WINDOWS? The last issue I read had some harsh reviews of Windows 98,..then the postman didn't bring any more BYTEs.
