That's a tough one... ;-)

IBM lost a billion on PCs without a vision and Dell made several billion with one.

Hmmmm, which is the more effective model?

Don't ask 5fer.

Dell's vision is to take the R&D investment incurred by msft and intc and produce it in the most profitable manner utilizing supply chain management and other innovative software manufacturing techniques.

The intent is to minimize R&D in the core product (push it off to msft and intc) and shift those costs to the supply chain where the value proposition lies for Dell.

I really think thats it, its pretty clear and while not revolutionary its still pretty effective wouldn't you agree?

rudedog....

RE: Can you express DELL's vision to me in say 5 sentences? Then I will at least have an idea of what you guys are talking about.

"... the three golden rules at Dell:
1) Disdain inventory,
2) Always listen to the customer, and
3) Never sell indirect."

"Direct from DELL" by Michael Dell, 1999, p. 59.
