Was the Agfa software required in order to use the cable to transfer pictures?

Yes

How easy was it to install the Agfa Photo Genie software?

Piece of cake.

How fast did the photos transfer?

Reasonably fast, didn't take long for only 11 medium resolution images on a supplied 4 Mb SmartMedia card.

If you had an internal Clik drive on your Agfa, would you buy another external Clik to improve ease of use, or would you transfer all your pictures through the serial port?

No. If I had the Agfa camera with a built-in Clik! drive, I would simply buy a lot of Clik! disks and continue to transfer the images directly from the camera unless that process severely drained the batteries all the time. If that were the case, plugging the SmartMedia card into my external Clik! drive and transferring the images to a Clik! disk is a fairly fast process and doesn't seem to severely drain the external Clik! drive's battery.
