CBOE to Add January 2000 (Y2K) Expiration Options on OEX, SPX, DJX and NDX Indexes in Response to Customer Demand
CHICAGO, April 19, 1999 -The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that it will add options that expire in January, 2000 to its most actively traded index products beginning today. Options are often used to hedge portfolio risk or to lock in profits in volatile markets and the January 2000 expiration options will provide investors with an investment alternative that specifically covers the roll into the year 2000 (Y2K).
CBOE elected to list the January expiration options earlier than anticipated to accommodate investors who have already begun to plan strategies using options to address Y2K.
CBOE is adding the January expiration to the Standard and Poor's 100® Index options (OEX®), Standard & Poor's 500 Index® options (SPX), Options on the Dow Jones Industrial Average IndexSM (DJX) and the Nasdaq-100 Index® options (NDX), and are in addition to the December, 1999 and March 2000 expiration options currently available. January expiration options are also available in most stock options traded at CBOE. The expiration date for January options is Saturday, January 22, 2000 with the last trading day occurring the preceding Thursday or Friday.
