I think sprinkler systems kind of depressed some lawn waterers. I read about it somewhere. Dads used to dig that, even if they didn't know they did; it was their zen.

After dinner, in the cool. Red and blue skies. Quiet houses, porch doors. Other hose sprinklers coming on and going off; coiling and uncoiling. Glass street lamps. Lines of leaves at the edge.

It seems it was the time right before dads' came under pressure. Not the pressure of long hard workdays. They'd always been doing that. The invisible pressure of civilization; modern times. The death of zen.
