I am new to P$F charting and like it, because it helps me recognize patterns and characterize them. Having said that, I was wondering if one of the more experienced P$F analysts could help me with a stock analysis. I am sitting right on a lower bearish resistance line with VRTX. I'm not all that concerned with analysis on upward price projection. I am really curious about how one might differentiate a possible shakeout from a real negative reversal to avoid getting stopped out. I suspect the answer is that it can't be done, just asking.

On PnF theory and practice -- as viewed by one new to the art.

Only a few have mentioned prominent sell signals and even fewer seem to have acted upon them today and preceding days on the stocks many of us hold. AOL broke another double bottom today and I sold it. Ditto for ATHM, CMGI, QCOM, all of which I sold. I made an exception for EMC which I may sell tomorrow after earnings. Some take credit for holding on in face of adversity (courageous?). Some rationalize the pullback as something to be expected (and to be ignored?). Other are banking on BPNYSE to show a bullish 46% (lost some bets here). But few have harped on the beauty of PnF in allowing for unemotional well-reasoned sell decisions suggested by the charts and few are holding onto their positions based on what the charts are telling them. So when should we be paying attention to PnF sell signals?

Still trying to learn PnF art.

Tulvio
