i'm not new to investing but, but a couple things i still don't understand:

who are the "big boys?"
what is the "smart money?"

i see many references to these terms, on this thread.. but i've never seen a lucid definition...

thanks in advance!

ps.. i watch several issues every day on level II and i am convinced that market makers (as a whole) are no more clairvoyant than your average daytrader, regarding near term price movement...

On the other hand, I've seen futures way down only to lead to a violent rally an hour into trading. Maybe the futures don't mean much at all. -- Also I keep reading posts about how the MM's and big boys and coaxing the market lower and "tricking" us little investors. I know a few big boys well and they are just as eager for the market to keep going up as we are. And they go long most of the time.

No, today's tech sell-off was sparked by Magellan's announcement, CPQ's fizzle, a few lousy internet earnings reports and then it just snowballed. Sometimes that happens for no particular reason at all. Mass hysteria as everyone sees others going for the exits so they follow. Fear causes panic causes more panic. It's definitely overdone and will settle down soon. Then investors will be looking at golden bargain-hunting opportunities not just in nets but low PE stocks too.

This market will come back. In hours, days or weeks.

Texas Instruments earnings reports probably helped. A lot of the tech majors and major internets are close to support levels, within 1 or 2 points.
