I think there are alternative explanations without conjuring up a conspiracy. Having taught children, my experience is that the boys do demand more attention, because they are more aggressive, and some of them have a tendency to be ill-behaved. I find it difficult to imagine a group of ten-year-old boys conspiring to keep their female classmates down. The noisy ones "steal" more than their fair share of attention from the well-behaved boys, too. I wish I could have ejected the noisy boys from my class and kept the girls and the well-behaved boys, we would have made so much more progress.
