Chief - You are right. You can put it into a cooling jacket, as long as it doesn't cool the cell below its necessary operating temperature. And yes, you can make the jacket strong, a containment jacket.
But now, if you're a manufacturer for vehicles, you get into tradeoffs...does the added weight and bulk of a cooling and containment jacket add too much to the design "cost" of the GLE cell that it begins to be outweighed by the design cost of the extra bulk and weight of the reformer on the BLD cell? Which is better?
Not only better in terms of running costs, but production costs, and safety regulations.
FWIW, I should make the same disclaimer as you...but I did work and talk with a number of people at my company and BLD as we worked from prototype to existing models of the BLD cell. I own no BLD now (sold at $107).
I'm long on GLE, but it will be a while until these cells are working, on the market. My own GUESS ( only a guess ) is that the first market for these cells will be as stationary power sources.
FWIW, Chief. Regards,JK

Does anyone know how much the GLE cell weighs compared to an internal combustion engine?

I agree that heat isn't any more of an issue than with an existing ICE.

I've started a thread on tur.a. They have signed a memorandum of understanding with Global. Turbo Genset has used their turbine generator to power a car!!! I'm trying to understand what the fit might be.
