Why NSM?

Cyrix has announced a million and one "projects". The way I see it, at least one of them is going to be announced soon.

This is enough proof for *me* that Cyrix has something along the lines of working silicon for S370. Now here is what I am thinking...

"Our ramp up time to the 0.18 micron process technology has been nothing short of phenomenal, " said Kevin McDonough, co-general manager of Cyrix and senior vice president of National Semiconductor.

This seemed like good news at the time so why no news since then? Perhaps the company is going after S370 so aggressively that they have axed everything else in order to ramp up enough to meet demand (and avoid AMD's problems).

"Cyrix's next generation processor, expected to debut in the fourth (!!!) quarter of 1999 in the 600 - 800MHz speed range."

Remember folks, the fourth quarter is only a month away. If we see 600-800Mhz, why would anyone need Celeron, PII, or PIII? This could also be the reason that Intel has been popping out Celerons with faster clock speeds everyday. The 466 is out already (originally scheduled for November).

Thoughts?
