Harvey P. White Elected to AMCC's Board of Directors
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1999--

Leading high-bandwidth silicon connectivity solutions provider Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (Nasdaq:AMCC - news) today announced that Harvey P. White, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Leap Wireless International(TM)(LWIN), has been elected to AMCC's board of directors, effective immediately.

In September 1998, White was appointed chairman, chief executive officer and president of Leap Wireless International, an operator of wireless telephone systems in the U.S., Chile, Russia and Mexico. As one of the founders of QUALCOMM, he served as President from May 1992 through June 1998 when he became Vice Chairman before the establishment of Leap Wireless.

During his 13 year tenure at QUALCOMM, White was a director and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer prior to being appointed President. Before starting QUALCOMM, White held positions as Executive Vice President, COO and Director of Linkabit Corporation (M/A-Com Linkabit) in San Diego.

His earlier experience included Group Vice President of Industrial Systems at Rohr Industries Inc., ownership of distribution firms and financial, operations and systems positions at Raytheon, Whittaker and TRW. White holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Marshall University.
