Is a system capable of carrying out a pure ideology? I wouldn't think so. It seems that you would have to balance the theory with some unfortunate realities, limitations imposed by budget, manpower etc. And maybe a good dose of humility regarding our own ability to be wrong. Interfering in other cultures' ongoing conflicts and societies calls for a knowledge and understanding that I think very few have- our judgment, our thinking, is Western. Becoming The Policeman of the world strikes me as an assumption of moral superiority that I'm not sure we have earned, or that is always accurate. On the other hand, when I see the news, I am shocked and brought to tears by the suffering we're seeing. PArt of this is just personal traits-- I am passive by nature-- compassion dictates that we send relief, we offer homes, we deny the offending government any economic perks. But this ill-conceived, goalless demiwar doesn't represent any credible moral stance that I can see.
