Scumbria:

re >>How could a wayward company like IBM which buys so many AMD processors be doing so well? It doesn't make any sense.<<

Gee Scum I give up?? Maybe they charge amd more for fabricating them than amd can sell em for!!!

BTW: AMD reminds me of the Black Knight in the old Monty Python movie "Quest for the holy grail". The black knight won't let King Arthur cross the bridge, (for no apparent reason). When they begin fighting over it the King cuts off the Black Knights appendages one by one.

The Black Knight is not deterred though, after losing an arm he declares "Nothin but a flesh wound". After hopping on one leg and butting King Arthur, Arthur reluctantly cuts off his leg, his last appendage. The Black Knights response: "Come back ere ya bastard! I can still bite you"

With the sale of Vantis AMD is sacrificing one more appendage to stay in the game. But I'm sure you can trust Jerry to attack Intel with his last dying breath.

Scumbria,

How could a wayward company like IBM which buys so many AMD processors
be doing so well? It doesn't make any sense.

Mostly through software, services and system 390s. Their PC business lost money. And that's the truth.

I guess buying all those AMD chips caused IBM to make this statement:

crn.com

IBM Personal Systems Group turned in sales of $3.6 billion and lost $89 million during the three-month period ended March 31.

They fix them, they put software on them, they stomped the living crap out of CPQ & 5fer doing so. IBM, like AMD makes no money on the PC sales. IBM, earnings 1.5B, Intel 2.0B.
