I'm not liking the sound of this. The full article will appear later, but I'm going to bed.

Derek,

Is "unique" the same as "proprietary" or "unique to an individual card"?

"SanDisk includes an on-board controller in every product which carries a unique serialization feature and provides a solution which satisfies the guidelines of several proposals currently under review by the Secure Digital Music Initiative. This serialization feature plays a crucial role in creating an authorized copy which is bound to the storage media."

Also, once downloaded, will a particular song be allowed to be read and written only to the card with that unique serialization???

I have used my Pontis player only with CD's I own and with free internet downloads. I will have to try it out on a pay site.
