Oh yeah. I've been waiting for two years for this. I'd bet the folks at Comcast aren't too happy.

More than meets the eye here.

T bet the farm on building a broadband delivery system over cable.

ATHM, which T owns, is a big part of that. Mediaone, of course, owns a big piece of roadrunner.

Roadrunner + @Home = almost all the internet traffic over cable.

Meantime, Microsoft has taken a strong financial position with Comcast and Comcast is their big entry to broadband.

MSFT calls the shots at Comcast (It's really not Comcast anymore - it's MSFT). For example, MSFT has the right to kick @Home off the Comcast cable in the months just ahead. When you've got that much power, you're the tail that wags the dog.

So what we are seeing here is the AT&T vs MSFT war for major turf.

It's also no secret that MSFT has other deals, through Paul Allen, to do their own broadband.

T can see that Comcast could be a real problem if they get their hands on Mediaone.
