CTC,

It comes from being a devoted contrarion with a unhealthy amount of disrespect for one's fellow humans. Burke's philosophy (so it seems to me) is to do exactly opposite of what the "herd" is doing at any point of time. Now, while the majority is never completely right, in this fast-advancing technological world always doing the reverse of what majority does w/o any consideration for underlying rationale leads one to become a neo-Luddite w/o a cause. Therefore, all technological advance must be pointless, and all prosperity resulting from such advance must be an accounting game of smoke and mirrors.

<<BGR, the thing that gets me about the guys on the Burke thread is there is always the innuendo that the accounting is bogus. There is always something hidden and sneaky.>>

Forensic accountants will tell you that is basically true. Given the nature of GAAP accounting, there are many places to dress up the financial statements with aggressiveness that belies the performance of the business.

However, the issue is not whether the financials have some funniness in them. The issue is whether the red flags denote some material misrepresentation of the business.

Hi Chuzz
OT
I didn't think that MSFT's results looked all that good.
What did not look that good? Considering they pushed 400K in revenues forward due to the late release of Office I thought it looked pretty solid. You seem to be a lot better at the number crunching than me so I have to ask.
Always enjoy your posts
