EDITED: D.E...all excellent questions that you pose. I'm still stuck on thoughts about "backdoor" income :) Media One, Baby Bells....hmmmmmmm.

"MEDIAONE® LAUNCHES CABLE TELEPHONY SERVICE
WITH TELLABS' CABLESPAN® SYSTEM
So, the question now is whether an AT&T acquisition of MediaOne will have any effect on this relationship. Will MediaOne's relationship with Tellabs help Tellab crack the T account? Will T's commitment to ANTC lock Tellabs out from MediaOne? Or (hopefully most likely?) will T deploy with two vendors of cable/telephony systems?

Regards,
Dary "

This part intrigued me when the news was released, and still does:
"MediaOne, the nation's leading Broadband services company, provides entertainment, information and communications services to more than 5.1 million customers in 17 states. MediaOne Group (NYSE:UMG), is one of America's leading broadband communications companies, bringing the power of broadband and the Internet to more than seven million customers in the United States, Europe and Asia. The company also has interests in some of the fastest-growing wireless communications businesses outside the U.S., serving more than three million customers. For 1997, the businesses now part of MediaOne Group produced $6.6 billion in proportionate revenue."
