There is absolutely no way you can judge what "passes for normal" by simply looking at outward manifestations of these families existence. There's no way to know what kind of misery resided within those suburban monstrosities on the cul de sac. One thing I can tell you though, of a certainty is that those boys were neglected, ignored, a reflection of the superficiality of those "utterly, utterly normal" American dreams. bp
