Anthony, I have sent a check to the address you provided in Macedonia also. Had given to the refugee fund at Red Cross at Easter, but happy to help the organization you are affiliated with.

FYI I have never been short on a stock, and only had you bookmarked to keep track of what stocks to AVOID going long on. I visited Yugoslavia five times back when I was single and managed a travel agency. An amazingly beautiful place, and I loved the people. I am so saddened by what has happened there. I followed the horrors of Bosnia closely, and was so frustrated more was not done to stop this madman.

You really are risking your safety by being there, and I have the utmost in admiration for you. You have more support than you probably realize. I have sent emails and will continue to do so this weekend, to every news and government source I can think of.

May you continue to stay focused on your goals, and keep us posted as to what we can do to help.

Thought you'd all want to see the "reply" I just received
to my personally written email to Senator Abraham of yesterday:

Subj: Re: Kosovo orphan relief efforts of Mr. Anthony Elgindy

This is to acknowledge receipt of your recent e-mail message. You may
expect a reply from our legislative staff in the near future if you
have included a complete postal address in the State of Michigan. We
will respond via e-mail as much as possible.

Please understand that, due to the high volume of incoming mail and a
budget that is prorated to the number of citizens in Michigan, I can
only respond to Michiganians. However, I do appreciate and value the
input of everyone.

Sincerely,

Spencer Abraham

This does not fill me with inspiration.....
I live in CA; I have received auto-responses from those as well.
No, I'm not giving up. Tony's not giving up -- I'm sure of that.

Dear Anthony,

Unfortunately it makes sense that you'd be having trouble with the American Embassy, or any government officials, because teh system wwe live in has produced this problem and cannot fix it. Therefore, a more effective way is to directly utilize your $, skills (and ours) and your wherewithal and presence there, and rather try to get them into America which may be a losing cause, quietly go to low-cost European haven like Hungary (especially since Europe's borders are open), contact local aid organiations, ply them with American $, ask them for names of personal contacts of people in the country who...might...bend the rules a bit...and hunt down some places for these kids to live. Then, put the kids in a truck and take them there.

I know someone who was in a similar position once. This works.

Anthony -- The check and the emails have been sent, and I'll be asking friends and family to help out as well...

I've discussed it with my wife, and we'd like to go a step further. In the spirit of Aloha, we'd like to offer our home to a couple of refugees during this crisis if you can get them out of there and need additional housing. As a Vietnam refugee, my wife has been through a somewhat similar situation and has helped her siblings recover from their horrible experience. The kindness of strangers helped them through their ordeal and made a world of difference.

With room for our son in our bedroom and our daughter in the second, our third bedroom can be made available as needed, and we also have common space that can be converted. What little we have to offer I'm sure is much better than what they have now. I'm not sure if the distance to Hawaii is a problem, but we'd be happy to help if we can.

We'd like to let everyone over there know that even those on the opposite end of the world care and would like to help them out. When you overcome the current obstacles you're encountering, please let us know how we can take the next step.

Thanks for everything you're doing,

Mr. Aloha

Anthony, you have my permission to raise hell at me anytime if thats what it takes to wake me up,I'm bad about procrastinating and probably would have put off sending funds if you hadn't got serious this morning.I had so much going on and push 100 things aside to do three I'm glad I put you ahead of all of them and drove to the bank. You made me realise my priorities today. It only took 1/2 hour at most but sometimes I cant find time to even make a phone call to my daughter unless I just do it.Thanks for being the great guy you are!TOOL

A Must Read!<----READ & Please repectfully add any words of support
to the Honorable Senator (SENT ON MOTHER TEREZA LETTERHEAD) I copied
and pasted it here for you..

April 23, 1999

The Honorable Senator Spencer Abraham,UNITED STATES SENATOR
329 Senate Dirckson Office Building
Wasington DC. 20510202-224-4822
phone202-224-8834

fax RE: Political Asylum or Emergency Visa…

To The Honorable Senator Spencer Abraham:

Our Organization, Mother Teresa Humanitarian Organization, has
identified many families that have been unable to leave the camps
outside Scopje, making it difficult for refugees who need to come to
the refugee relief camps from entering and forcing some 5-7,000
refugees to live in the forests and mountains just South of the
Kosovo border. We have been monitoring the activities of Mr. Anthony
Elgindy and since he has been denied any help from the United States
Embassy here and since Congressman Wexler request for aid has fallen
on deaf ears we are sending this letter in an attempt to appeal to
your office.

Mr. Elgindy's trip here, seems simple enough but unfortunately he has
been unable to receive the necessary permission and or visas to bring
some of these displaced families or children out of Macedonia. After
countless interviews with the refugees it is clear that they are
having a hard time trusting the Americans and the motives for helping
any refugees. These people, despite their reluctance to accept aid
from the United States, want to leave the camps so badly since the
conditions are below that of the worst prisons in the United States
according to Mr. Elgindy. There are dozens of families and or tents
that want to come back to the United States with Mr. Elgindy. Mr.
Elgindy guarantees their safety, travel expenses and housing while in
the United States for as long as this war continues. He is a private
United States citizen who has traveled here to share the burden of
moving these people out of these outdoor mud camps to the safety
within the United States. He will direct his company, Pacific Equity
Investigations, to actively search for missing family member here and
elsewhere. Since France, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, the Netherlands,
Albania, Macedonia, and many other countries all over the world are
offering a destination for these displaced people, Mr. Elgindy is
offering an additional destination, his home.

He has also agreed to send these people back to Kosovo or to their
located family members who may turn up after weeks or months. These
people want to return to Kosovo once they can be convinced that they
will not be attacked. He is not asking for any assistance or
donations or any help from any U.S. taxpayer. He has already given
his time and money and used any influence he may have on Wall Street
to raise money for our humanitarian organization and others in the
United States (see attached letter from Congressman Wexler).

We have identified members in two different tents that we would like
to ask for permission that they be allowed into the United States at
Mr. Elgindy's expense.

The first group (Tent # unknown, Camp #2, Stenkovec, just south of
the Kosovo border with Macedonia)
CHILDREN'S NAMES AGES GENDER
1. Aferdita Imeri 17 Girl
2. Miradie Imeri 16 Girl
3. Shukrie Imeri 15 Girl
4. Abdurrahim Imeri 14 Boy
5. Feim Imeri 10 Boy
6. Ylber Imeri 7 Boy
7. Bujar Imeri 10 Boy
8. Selatin Imeri 8 Boy
9. Arben Imeri 6 Boy
10. Mustaf Imeri 4 Boy

All of these children are the children of three brothers. Their
three fathers and three mothers are missing and presumed to be dead
or in Kosovo. The children's Grandmother, Mrs. Hamide Imeri was born
in 1908, age 91. She cannot move. She needs medical care. Her
daughter, the sister of the three missing fathers, Mrs. Habibe
Potera, age 56, is caring for this entire group. Her husband, Shaqir
Potera, age 66, is too frail to aid in their care. They have a son
who is also with them, Besnik Potera, age 22, and he is extremely
malnourished.

The second group is located in tent 78 C, Camp #2, Stankovec has an
equally tragic situation.
CHILDREN'S NAMES AGES GENDER
1. Florije Krasniqi 17 Girl
2. Neriman Krasniqi 12 Girl
3. Hamdi Krasniqi 8 Boy
4. Mirijeta Krasniqi 9 Girl
5. Besim Krasniqi 12 Boy
6. Blerim Krasniqi 11 Boy
7. Beqim Krasniqi 8 Boy

We were told initially that four of these children lost both parents
to Serb police. They now claim that they are all cousins so as to
avoid being split up. Mrs. Emine Krasniqi, age 43, left an older
daughter behind in Kosovo and when they were fleeing they picked up a
9 year old, that they now identify as Merijeta Krasniqi, who was
running away and alone. This group that has decided to become a
family, is comprised of one very ill male, age 30, Imer Krasniqi who
suffers from extreme abdominal pain and malnutrition. The two older
women Azize Kraniqi, female, age 47 and previously mentioned Emine
Krasniqi, age 42 are caring for four children who have lost both
parents. We, the Mother Teresa Humanitarian Organization certify and
attest that this "family" will be better off if given access to Mr.
Elgindy's aid and assistance. Additionally, two of the children claim
that they have family abroad but are unable to locate them. With Mr.
Elgindy's assistance they will be able to do that.

We humbly request and plead for your permission and assistance in
allowing Mr. Elgindy do lighten the load of the various organizations
and agencies here. Mr Elgindy will finance these placements and
assistance to these people completely on his own, with no assistance
from our organization or any other.

Very truly yours and with respect,

Avdula Memetaj
President

re Kosovar refugees:

Is there a website containing the most salient pieces of info here? Seems I saw a reference to one but can't find it. Another group of us will be setting one up within the next few days and will post the address when we have it. We'd like to include all Anthony's descriptions of what's happening.

We are planning to send one or two volunteers to Skopje in about two weeks. If you want to keep up with our progress on getting them there with the supplies being gathered, please join us at our Raging Bull board set up STRICTLY for the refugee topic (not the politics of the conflict) at:

ragingbull.com

and write us at:

K_refugees@hotmail.com

We need information badly. At the moment we don't even know what flights we can count on around that date and are still uncertain of the best kinds of lightweight material aid. I am in touch with Anthony by PM and will be finding out more about the aid soon, I hope. Ideally, our volunteer(s) can get in touch with the rest of you over there.

Anyone else with good contributing skills interested in going?

Our lead (and possibly solo) volunteer is a graphics artist with highly developed skills in all phases of construction work and, to a lesser extent, in automotive mechanics. But mostly, he's willing to donate his energy and heart to doing whatever needs to be done.

With enough big hearts, even this world might be saved.

Thanks - hope for us - help us, etc. and THANK YOU, ANTHONY!

Raven
