Light volume today. The upticks and downticks are determined by the market-makers on the NYSE. There is no set # as to how many shares trigger an up or downtick. If volume is very light, it will only take a small amount of shares to trigger a move. I've seen as few as a hundred shares do it on very slow days. This is why market technicians don't put much weight on light volume days. Strong up or down moves on heavy volume days are very significant.
