Mark, "Read-Rite to lay off 2,400 of 18,000 workers"


Read-Rite Corp. will announce the lay-off of more than 2,400 of its
18,000 employees on Monday. An estimated 120 of those layoffs will
be from the company's operations in Milpitas and Fremont, with the
rest overseas. The company, which has said it expects to post a loss
for the quarter, will release financial results for the second quarter
Monday.

QNTM sales? Read thru your CC notes since SepQ97 - when they failed to qual for the 2.1GB pgm... They were "very optimistic about recent progress with the current qual" for every Q since. But they've failed to qual on every pgm since. Anybody remember the good ole' 1.6pgm days??? Long time ago... Don't count on RDRT/SMI to bail these guys out.
