Does the company-stated Iridium capacity assume a single gateway? That must be the case if what you say about removing gateways/not affecting capacity is true. If that is the case, I stand corrected. On the other hand, if Iridium had more gateways, and did not have to utilize available circuits for ISLs, would they not have a greater capacity? I do not know the answer to that, but it only makes sense. If calls were to go up to a satellite and down to a ground station, without switching in space, more circuits should be available to handle calls. One gateway can handle all of Iridium's traffic, but so could 100. Theoretically, Iridium has the highest capacity onboard the satellite, but reality says different.

I did not read about the gateways anywhere. Perhaps they will bring it up Monday.
