To All, Sunday paper notes. 1. The ads, and I didn't have one from CompUSA, were odd. One Celery on the cover of Circuit City, below the fold and on the side. Inside, lots of PIIs and Celerys. The only AMD was a notebook. PIII? What is that? <g> Office Depot had a pricey Compaq AMD on the cover, above the fold. That's all. Office Max had one pricey Compaq Celery. Best Buy had no boxes on the cover. Back cover had a nice Monorail AMD system. Very similar to the Compaq Office Depot was hawking with a $400 price haircut. With all of our talk about E-Machines, I haven't noticed how the older Monorail has been doing. Anyone know? Inside, lots of Celerons, 1 AMD and 1 PIII. So that's where it's been hiding. <g> 2. Humorist Ken Hoffman runs a regular feature from the Humane Society called "Pethouse Pet of the Week." In this feature, he allows the want to be adopted dog to speak his thoughts ala The Playmate of Month crap on the back of the centerfold. (Sometimes I think Ken makes up the quotes, but, so far, he has not admitted it in his press releases or on his conference calls <g>) Under "Turn Offs", Nimbus says : Have you heard about the class-action suit against Compaq? Investors are angry because they think Compaq executives knew the stock was going down in value and didn't tell stockholders. The executives sold off their stock while the shareholders were left holding the bag, according to the suit. Anyway, I was watching tv and they were interviewing one of the sad-sack stockholders. It was Mike Davis, the old phoney baloney psychic whose predictions I used to run in this column. Hmm, if he was such a hotshot psychic, how come he didn't know the stock was going down? <g> Later on, the dog mentions, "I'm white with yellow spots on my cute nose. I'll even give you insider stock tips about Compaq." Good stuff. I also have those yellow spots. <g>
