I agree - and made this same point to Hutch - which he chose not to answer - to my knowledge we have not had a deflation since the 30's when gold stocks did well. We've had disinflation which some seem to confuse with deflation. dd

You must have misunderstood me. I would be stupid to deny that inflation creates strong value in gold. But I wasn't taking about inflation in that post. I was discussing DEFLATION and DEPRESSION. Falling prices and negative economic growth.

Gold went to $800 an ouce primarily due to foolish monetary policy in the early to mid seventies... taking the dollar off the gold standard... and finally, OPEC's shenanigans.

The POG was artificially high then, and some would contend now.

The deflation was in the bubble between the Fed rates and the Bond rates. The currency reflects the cash outflow
