Hi Uncle and All,
Here is my take on the current RMBS/INTC situation:

1) there have been a long series of technical problems centered around the interfacing of RDRAM to the CPU and other hardware elements
2) these problems have mounted to a (current) 6 month delay in introduction and a serious yield problem
3) to alleviate the yield problem, the specifation has been softened to 700mhz, and may go lower
4) the solution of these problems means a price adder of $300+ to the shelf price compared to conventional SDRAM
5) INTC as it is is loosing ground to AMD in the <$1000 catagory. The AMD K6-3 ad K7 will only mean further market share erosion
6) a $300 price adder to the Celeron platform is intolerable
7) RDRAM will not substantially come down in price until it is available in 0,18µ technology
8) interim solution is to offer Celeron platforms with PC133 to hold off AMD, and introduce RDRAM with Caminio for PIII platforms. Current schedule September
9) this will mean a slower earnings ramp for RMBS

Expect confirmation and production start in JUNE. Until then it will be ROCKY

Comments????

Alan

I wouldn't go so far as to call marcy burstien (or whatever her name is) a reporter. She writes your basic tabloyde garbage like, "my babies from mars!" Although we now know for certain that they monitor this tread for information. She also loves to see her name in print on this thread.
