OT.

Hi Clint,

220KB/s is really good. With a 5.2MB file I got up to about 130KB/s which I believe amounts to roughly 1.3Mbps. That is really good considering PacBell only guarantees about 384Kbps (max=1.5Mpbs.) I was told I'm only about 1000ft away from the CO and that really helps with the speed. ADSL seems to work like a car. With a big download it starts out slower (about 40KB/s) and it ramps up to about 130KB/s or more. I am not going back to dialup either.

If you want to do more downstream testing, Adobe and Pointcast have nice large files you could download.

I also bought a Logitech QuickCam Pro video camera from buy.com and I did some video conferencing with some buddies. For $105+ it is a pretty nifty gadget. And the free Microsoft NetMeeting works well too. It is just too bad that for some reason the Microphone on my NEC Notebook does not work under Win98. I have to fix that.

BTW, do you get your own IP address with ATHM or is it assigned dynamically? Also is there a login procedure or is the connection always active?
