Sun to unveil desktop remote-access software. It sounds like it's designed to let you effectively have your "home" computer -- complete with all applications -- on any Java-capable web browser.

cnnfn.com

Works with Solaris, Windows, and MVS (IBM) desktops.

This could be really, really big.

The Riva TNT is a $200 dollar graphics card. Tell me how much the Elite 3D card is worth and we'll compare it against an equally priced PC card. SGI's business has almost all been lost to NT. Those high-end graphic application developers are putting out on NT first now. That's why SGI is suffering now. People can spend 25K on a high-end proprietary iron UNIX workstation or buy a 7K, dual-processor, high-end PC and run NT/Linux or whatever they like.

If you've read my posts you'll realize I'm talking workstation more than anything. For desktop applications there is no reason for a proprietary iron UNIX workstations anymore.
