Kash - Re: "It would be my guess that Intel will end up buying thousands of these servers from a low cost integrator as opposed to an IBM,HP,CPQ etc."

If it's new business, it is additive.

Besides - many people on this thread think that Intel will be buying the servers from one of their own customers.

A thousand servers is a lot of servers for one room - but if you look at the numbers - Compaq apparently shipped 150,000 servers in Q199 and Dell shipped 100,000 Servers in Q199.

See: Message 9136074

Thus, 1000 Servers for Intel is a NIT !

Kash,

I am NOT saying its a dumb move.

Just that by itself it is questionable and there is probably a lot more to it than just
offering a large server farm.

What's the matter, did Intel jump the gun on a business idea you had? Hey, always need competition, go for it.

Re who Intel will buy the servers from, only thing I've seen so far is:

Intel said that it will buy the servers from other companies, with the first server farm expected in
Santa Clara.
