A 466 MHz Celeron has a SpecInt95 of about 17.0.

466 MHz Celeron systems will be readily available tomorrow at prices not much above $1000.

Why would a large number of developers run out and buy a 700 MHz Alpha machine that is not much faster than a 466 MHz Celeron machine - when the installed base of Celeron/x86 compatible machines is measured in the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF UNITS - and GROWING at over a 100 million units per year?
