lml, does MVL use a more spectrally compatible line code than DMT? And does it also work through signal generators and pairgain devices?Tim

re:<<If we're talking less than 300Kbps, I don't see the lure of this type of DSL that significant to warrant deployment in competitive markets>>

that's a good input lml. The paradyne website implies higher than 300k rates, but doesn't specifically say it in one coherent, no-beating-around-the-bush statement. Nor do they give any useful technical details. I'll have to do some more looking.

Paradyne, by the way, is slated to go public soon. Their S-1 was filed a little over a week ago. I'll have to look into it a bit more since it now becomes more than a technical curiosity. ?$->:o)

"I say all this with the knowledge that the ability to deliver ubiquitous ADSL deployment via the deployment of DSL plant equipment is not very far off."

lml,
Your comment above caught my eye. As did a comment made by Bernard Levy (A few months back) concerning consolidation of the DSL players. We got a conversation going back then about the players in the DSL market. I made a list: Adtran(ADTN), Alcatel(ALA), Aware(AWRE), Covad(COVD), Pairgain(PAIR), Tut Systems(TUTS), and Westell(WSTL). Did I miss any others?

I don't think DSL deployment is too far off either. Yet I still have not figured out how to play it? DSL investing is tough because most of the pure plays don't make money. I think Adtran and Alcatel are pretty sound investments (from the fundamental viewpoint only) but aren't pure plays.

Do you, or others, have any ideas/angles on DSL investments?
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
