With apologies to djane, I rewrote your posting a little:

-This I* news is significant. If the I* system is being proven as technologically flawed in comparison with the more robust Inmarsat Mini-M bent pipe system in real world uses[ #reply-9163572 ], it is tremendous news for Inmarsat [http://www.inmarsat.org & via-inmarsat.org ]. I* is rapidly squandering its main advantage -- time to market and, thus, the I*-will-take-customers-inlight-of-existing Inmarsat and before G* is ready-problem (especially after the 6-month Zenit delay) is becoming more and more of a concern. Why sign up for I* now or G* when it will be available in just 5 months when the Inmarsat Mini-M workhorse is saving the day today?

With I* failing, the X million of illusory subscriber demand theoretically still waits for G* (and maybe Ico with higher echo/latency and lower quality). As reflected in the 4/22 Crossman/JP Morgan conference call and rising stock price, Wall St is starting to figure out the key differences between I* and G*. Maybe it's the pre-commercial system hopes and desires vs. post-launch actual customers signed up for reality effect. As they analyze the reasons for Inmarsat's Mini-M success, they've got to relook at I*, G* and even ICO. geoff

You're correct, djane, but don't forget we may see G* go thru the same problems I* has with billing software (less likely) and reliable handset production (more likely.) Here's hoping they don't, but it is a risk. Until we get quality checks of mass produced handsets, we're not out of the woods yet.
