Here's the quote:

"At first, Internet stocks seemed like a short-seller's dream come true, not just because of their high valuations, but because many had financial or strategic flaws that promised, in time, to drive their stock prices down. But reality has brought more pain than profits for hedge funds that have tried to short Internet stocks. Instead, many Internet stocks rose fivefold, tenfold or even more.

And that wasn't what the shorts expected. "People just kept getting run over," says a San Francisco-based hedge fund manager, who says he isn't shorting any Net stocks these days. "There's plenty of stuff you can own and make a lot."

To Varma: I would see this information (if true) as
a negative to those who go long. Shorts who cover
always have a very positive effect on the price
moves to the upside we see encounter on many a
momentum stock. With the big moves DCLK and others
regularly encounter I question the validity of this
article. Good Luck and watch out for possible torrential
selling this morning!!!
