Daniel--- There is a question about the rash of such school shootings in the last few years, which is unusual. If you want to say that the answer is gun control, than you have to answer the question of why such incidents were less frequent in the past, since we have not moved from a paradise of fire- arms regulation. Wilson made a modest proposal based upon the fact that many gangs seem preoccupied with the use of clothing as a means of self- identification, and fashion has been a peculiar motivation in a rash of shootings. The possibility that uniforms would reduce class- tensions, discourage the formation of gangs, de- emphasize consumption as the basis for social recognition, and encourage identification with the school itself, is worth considering. I am somewhat skeptical myself, but I would not have been as dismissive of Wilson as you...
