We may have found one of Riley's elk here -

""It was a phony press release about a totally make-believe
company, and it went totally beyond the bounds of an April
Fool's joke," said Business Wire spokeswoman Cathy Baron
Tamraz. "We believe it was a malicious attempt to mislead and
caused significant damage to Business Wire's reputation
."

Silly me ... I, like wired.com and the rest of humanity, thought it was all about poking fun at investor credulity.

Did you note what the BS (oops, make that BW) spokeswoman said?
<<"We believe it was a malicious attempt to mislead and caused significant damage to Business Wire's reputation." >>

Yeah, right. Rather, it was a clever attempt to educate and caused significant amusement to many folks that have a grip on reality. Any damage to BW's reputation is of their own making in pursuing this ridiculous and harassing suit. OTOH, since PR is precisely their business, perhaps they truly believe that any publicity is "good" publicity. ;-)

And really, that reporter should have refrained from the gratuitous reference to the Pairgain criminal fraud that was obviously different in virtually every important respect.
