edamo, would you disagree if I were to call TV's a commodity?

Beef is another example that refutes your argument. All sorts of different companies out there that attempt to add value to the commodity, but a commodity nonetheless.

I believe you're being too narrow in your definition of a commodity.

Edamo, You miss the point. I have said "becoming" a commodity, not are a commodity. Yes, color matters to a very small % of buyers. Yes, a brand name matters to another small %. But the mainstream ask "what does it cost?" And that is the direction of commoditization. And it becomes more so every quarter. The entire "Intel Inside" scam was designed to make PCs a commodity around an Intel chip, with Intel maintaing the brand name. It didn't work 100% and even less so last year, but there are a heck of a lot of boxes that say Intel Inside on them.

You are trumped. <g>

... then why does color make a difference in the sale of imacs ...

Are the differently colored iMacs priced differently? No, they are priced like commodities relative to each other. Of course, they command a premium to Wintel crap computers, because they are better.
