Amazon's website is incredibly boring too but they do alright. There are many things the designer has to consider. If you look at Amazon and BIDS sites and you understand web design you will know why they have done it that way. Remember internet technology has a long way to go still. What counts is the auction process itself and how it excites people into wanting to buy products at great prices. Many of the bidders will be reselling what they buy from BIDS. They don't care how pretty it is, they want it to load fast and they want the best price. The key is the great prices (as it is with a giant like Amazon). Most people would just as easily order a book through their local bookstore rather than go to Amazon(considering shipping costs etc) but they buy from Amazon because of the prices. On the Internet everything is price, price, price unless you are in a very niche market. Saying a site is not visually appealing and won't do well is something that is more true when dealing only with business to consumer only auctions. It does not apply when it's mostly a business to business auction like BIDS auction will be tonight. Do yourself a favor and check out the prices. You may be pleasantly surprised. I have been able to pick up some truly amazing deals through declining price auctions. Lola:)
